LAAGER 8
Chapman's Peak Caravan Park 28th May 2021 (AGM)
Friday was a pleasant day although rain had been predicted, I was pleased to find Dawn and
Brian were set up on the right hand side, as Rhia had warned me at reception, that a crowd was
expected on the Left. Poor Leslie and Marieta had set up without chatting to Rhia and they were
on the left and had to move. Not that easy once everything is unpacked and settled.
Being good campers they complied and soon were re set up in the right place.
David arrived shortly after, not looking well at all but manfully settled his rig in place too.
We all later enjoyed the braai and chat at Les and Marietas' van, aided by a nice bottle of red.
It wasn't really cold so we chatted quite late. It was great to catch up with everyone, although we
missed Angela who was also not well at all.

Saturday morning was chilly, there had been rain during the night but it was starting to clear up.
We all did our thing shopping and walking, Aaron arrived to be babysat while Nikki and Dennis
went off sailing. Later we were joined by Sue and Doug and Caleb, and Martin and Jill.
By 2.30 pm we had a nice complement of members enough for the quorum to be met and we
could proceed with the AGM.

Thankfully Dave and Angela had decided to continue in their positions and Wayne accepted the
position of Vice Chair , Leslie will carry on as a member and I agreed to be Secretary.
While all were present , we decided to hold Indaba with the aim of getting suggestions for future
outspans and stir up enthusiasm for camping again .
Later we all enjoyed a delicious tea , carrot cake and all the other nice goodies to celebrate
Marieta's 70 th Birthday, wishing her Many Happy Healthy years ahead. We all enjoyed
chatting together in the flesh so nice to actually see one another and appreciate good long
standing friendships. Hoping we will be able and free er to meet more in future, once we all are
vaccinated.

We decided that as there were so few of us, we would go to the Spur for supper for the
committee meal. Dave partially subsidized us from the club so that was a nice bonus for us.
Longbeach Spur came up to scratch as usual and after we had sorted out fetching masks we all
enjoyed a very pleasant evening.

Sunday morning was bright and sunny so we had leisurely breakfasts and later Marieta fined and
spooned us and passed on the Big Spoon. Nikki and Dennis collected Aaron and later the
packing up got underway. Poor Dave was looking very tired and was helped along by Brian and
Leslie and he got off on his way. Dawn and Brian had decided to prolong their weekend so we
reluctantly left them to enjoy it.

L3 - Mountain Breeze

Club | News
Mountain Breeze Resort, Stellenbosch is a wonderful campsite with lots of pine trees for shade. The plots are level and no grass due to the trees but not a problem unless it really rains. There is a lovely swimming pool for the summer. The ablutions are neat, clean and have a constant supply of hot water and hand soap and sanitizer. Campers must supply their own toilet paper. All campers enjoyed this camp, just a pity the present owners lease is expiring end of June 2021. We just have to wait to see what happens to the present campsite

L21 - Ou Skip 21-23 May

Club | News
Friday dawned with the threat of rain, but once again we were blessed with wonderful weather for our AGM weekend. During the course of the day the families trickled in and by Friday evening the campfires were lit, and everyone gathered around and chatted into the early hours. On Saturday morning, some members opted for breakfast in the town, while Gen and her merry band of helpers started to prep for the evening meal.

L15 - Inaugural Newsletter May 2021

Club | News
After much preparation and deliberation, the Inaugural outspan of Laager 15 finally made it to the realization of many outspans that will be held in the future. As mentioned previously, this was a vision come true and well supported by all who attended. Our very first outspan was notably held at De Hollandsche Molen, one of our most favorite parks in the Western Cape and highly recommended.

L21 - KAMBATI CAMP 19th – 21st Mar 2021

Club | News
Some of the Laager members decided to have an extra long weekend and arrived at Kambati on Thursday. Friday morning saw the rest of the members arriving and by the evening everyone had arrived to enjoy a lekka gesels around the fire with much laughter. Saturday morning found everyone trying to guess the mystery activity we had planned. At 2pm everyone gathered and was told they would be making a kite. Everyone became excited, like kids again, as no one had built a kite since childhood. Everybody had lots of fun making the kites and especially trying to fly them. Poor Lesley was made to run up and down by Leighton to try and get the kite to fly. Unfortunately, as per the Premier Log, John’s Liverpool kite did not feature at all and Robbie’s Manchester United kite took flight and stayed ahead. Sunday evening being an extra night, we had snacks which everyone enjoyed and a wonderful time around the fire again

L21 - Mountain Breeze Resort 6 th – 8 th November 2020

Club | News
It has been almost eight months since our last outspan at Bergriver, the pandemic has resulted in unprecedented times in the world and it is still not over. It has been a tough time for all of us with a few families actually contracting the virus but we are blessed that they all recovered. So with this new normal, 9 families braved the weather and the virus, and decided to camp this weekend, whilst observing the health protocols as best they can.
